Top 10 Choices to become a Winner in 2017

Top 10 Choices to Become a Winner in 2017

The year 2016 is over. Good things and bad things had happened. But the most important thing is, we made memories – good or bad that we can treasure and remember when we get old.

2017 is finally upon us. It’s a new day, a new time, and a new opportunity to make the best things you haven’t done from the previous years, and to become the best version of yourself. If you ask yourself, “Is this the best year for me?” the answer would depend on you. It would depend on the choices you make and the actions you take. Choices mean having to change and changing is often difficult. Our body resists the difficult and craves the comfortable. Change is the Price of Growth and Survival.

So if you want to make this year your best year, follow the choices that the winners did.

1. Choose to Accept Help from Others

It’s only when we admit what we don’t know everything that we can find the help that we need. This humility is important in all areas of life. All of us can benefit from another person’s insight and expertise. Proverbs 19:20 says, “Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.” Whether it’s a pastor, a counselor, a teacher, or a good friend, a wise advice from another can give us a new perspective and renewed enthusiasm for our situation.

When you feel like you’re stuck in the same situation, or you aren’t sure how to approach a problem, listen to the advice of those you respect, seek out an expert, and ask for help.

2. Choose to Risk Change

It’s hard to let go of something good. Some of us are fairly comfortable where we are. As our lives move along, we become satisfied with our status quo. We tend to accept the circumstances the way they are and think we’re okay with that. But there’s a time when you have to let go of something good to reach for something great.

We normally spend a lot of energy into small details in life and tend to forget our bigger goals and that is the reason why we need to set our goals. When we set a goal and take a step toward attaining it, we move toward more important things in life. Our job is to stop being satisfied with the status quo and to set our goals high.

We believe God has great plans for each of us. But to find and reach them, we must be willing to risk change.

3. Choose to Get Up and Move On

Our failures may not be on a large scale but time after time our painstaking effort to learn from our failures often lead to no change. And if we’re honest, most of us have recurring failures in the way we interact with people or in the way we approach life. Whether it’s anger, selfishness, anxiety, or impatience, every day we fall short of what we want for our lives.

The bible is clear that we also fall short of God’s plan for our lives. “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” But there is hope! God himself gives us grace in our failures. He forgives us when we do the wrong thing. If he forgives us again and again, how can we not forgive ourselves? Resting in that incredible forgiveness, we will be able to accept where we are, get up, and move forward, full of hopes to try again.

4. Choose to Find a Way

Have you experienced being invited by your friend to a party or to a seminar but you don’t want to come,? or when you don’t feel like going to work, you don’t like the food, or you don’t like the person you’re talking to? When we are faced with those situations the only thing that comes up to our mind is, “how do I get out of this?” so we make excuses. Tons of alibis! Don’t you think it is the reason why becoming successful is difficult for some? Living in your comfort zone creates excuses on why you should not pursue your dreams and become successful.

If you want to succeed, you should have the determination to find a way, the perseverance to work hard, and the confidence to win.

These are the questions you have to ask yourself: “What are my dreams?” “How hungry am I for success?” “What is my BIG why?” “Why do I want to achieve my dreams?” “Is it worth the risks?

If you answer those questions, you’ll find a way out to reach your goal and turn obstacles into opportunities.

5. Choose to Face the Problems Head-On

Confession and forgiveness lead to freedom. And even when a problem isn’t the result of our own sin, facing it and dealing with it, especially with God’s help, still leads to freedom. Once we have confronted the problem and made a plan to overcome it, we will be able to move on. Our past will no longer control us.

The apostle Paul writes these encouraging words about moving away from the past: “Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” That’s a worthwhile goal for anyone.

6. Choose to Persevere

Champions never give up. Perseverance pay high dividends in our lives. Pursuing a worthy goal requires hard work. We may not see the results immediately, and we are often tempted to give up and go back to what seems to be the easier way, but winners choose to persevere. They keep on hoping even when things seem hopeless. The race may be hard now, but we know that God can transform our difficulties into a life beyond our wildest dreams.

When we keep our eyes on the goal, we’re motivated and encouraged by what we see ahead. The process may be difficult, but the rewards will be great.

7. Choose to Concentrate

People mistakenly think concentration is hard. It’s not necessarily true. It takes discipline, and like any habit, it takes time. Developing a habit of concentration begins with a choice.

When we want badly enough to reach that goal, we make up our mind to stay focused on our main desire. When negative thoughts or distractions come, we acknowledge but set them aside. The bible offers a word of encouragement on this subject: “Let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”

I believe you can. It begins with a choice. Make the choice to concentrate on what you feel is important to you, and you’ll be making the choice of winners.

8. Choose to Seek a Higher Purpose

Life’s purpose is not about gaining glory, fame, money, or recognition. Dedicate yourself to your family, become more serious about faith, and worry less about yourself and more about others.

Winners are those who discover their God-given gifts and use them to the best of their ability to benefit others. In the book of Jeremiah, we read, “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” God may not tell you your specific life purpose in a dream, but you can be sure that what he wants for you includes overcoming any obstacles that get in the way of living a meaningful life. God’s purpose for our lives doesn’t require us to be perfect. Only He is perfect. Instead, to fulfill God’s higher purpose for our lives, we need to trust him first. Trust that we have him right where we are in life right now. Trust Him even if don’t think we deserve His grace. Trust that he knows best.

When we do that, we’ll have a compass for our lives and God’s amazing peace will reside in us.

9. Choose to Aim Like a Winner

Winners aim to be the best. Henry Maslow’s studies show us that after people satisfy their psychological needs as well as their need for safety and security, love, and belonging, they desire to fulfill esteem needs-status, recognition, appreciation, and dignity. But there is one more need that he says transcends all the others: self-actualization. Esteem needs are more outward and connected with the doing of life, but self-actualization is inward and related to the being of life. It has to do with fulfilling our potential and purpose and becoming everything we’re capable of. Maslow says that it is only by meeting this need that we can be our “fullest.”

9. Choose to Act

Reading books, articles, and news are good. Attending seminars, conference, conventions and other social events are also good.  Spending time to sharpen your axe is good. But remember, knowledge is useless without application. You can gain lots of information, but with no action, it will just be an information that lies in your head. A real winner knows when to sharpen his/her axe and at the same works on it. If you have a dream, do not just stare at it. Do not just dream. This year, if you haven’t started yet, now is the perfect time to make it happen.

As you are facing or will face obstacles in your life, make the right choices – the choices of winners. May this article encourage you to take a step, set a goal, make the right choice and be a WINNER in the most important areas in your life.
