A Cup of Coffee a Day Keeps our Millions Away

SURVEY SAYS…

A survey reveals that “almost half of young people aged 18-34 spent more of their hard-earned money on COFFEE than on any form of RETIREMENT INVESTING. Over 41% of older millennials, aged 24-35, predicted that they won’t be financially secure enough to retire until they are older than 65.” (lifestyle.inquirer.net. January 18, 2017).

Is the survey disputable? Was it simply made-up? Does it deviate from the reality? Probably not. How often do you see young people hovering over coffee shops nowadays? The insatiable liking for coffee (and milk tea!) has become a lifestyle among millennials, right?  It seems like coffee shops have now become a socialization and working hub for them – a lifestyle that develops poor money management habit.

On a positive note, the survey has injected an awareness amongst us: we have to educate our young people how to make the right choices.

COFFEE OR STOCKS?

Here’s the deal. How much is a cup of coffee at Starbucks? Say, 100 pesos. However, you have decided to save that amount every day instead of spending it on coffee. As a result, you were able to accumulate 3,000 pesos in a month. Good! Now, should you decide to invest that amount in stocks or mutual funds, what will happen?

DID YOU KNOW…?

Did you know that if you have invested P3,000 monthly for the next 15 years at a compounding annual interest rate of 12%, your estimated WEALTH would be P1.3 Million?

A CUP OF COFFEE OR A MILLION-PESO SAVINGS?

Now you know that your little SAVINGS of 100 pesos a day could bring you a million pesos someday. If it could literally change the course of your financial life in the future, would you do it?

Dear millennials, a cup of coffee or a million-peso savings? The choice is yours.
